. Most of them do not live long. They are not meant to live long. They are coined for use at the moment of speech. The subject matter of the course paper is lexical-semantic features of occasionalisms and neologisms in modern English press. The object of the research work is occasionalisms and neologisms of the modern English language. The main aim of this work is to describe occasionalisms and neologisms by their structure, and to investigate the functioning of occasionalisms and neologisms in contemporary English press. The following tasks have been solved in our course paper: 1. Define the concept of occasionalism and neologism; 2. Consider a typology of occasionalisms and neologisms in English; 3. Identify the characteristics of occasionalisms and neologisms; 4. Consider the examples of the use of occasionalisms and neologisms in the discourse of contemporary British press. The theoretical meaning. This theme is not so spread, but a lot of language scientists describe occasionalisms in their books. It is a very interesting theme to study. New notions come into being, requiring new words to name them. Sometimes a new is introduced for a thing or notion that continues to exist, and the older name ceases to be used. The number of words in a language is therefore not constant; the increase as a rule, more than makes up for the leak-out. It means that the vocabulary of any language does not remain the same but changes constantly. The practical value. The theme of this qualification paper can be used as an aid for lectures of lexicology and it also can be used as a topic for discussion for students of Language Universities. This study in its structure contains an introduction, two chapters, conclusion and bibliography. The introduction describes the topicality of the chosen theme, the main aim and tasks which need solve to achieve the goal of the course work. The first chapter defines the concepts of occasionalism and neologism in linguistics, and give us the main characteristics of these concepts. The second chapter is devoted to the study of the practical functioning of the occasionalisms and neologisms in contemporary British press. Results of the study summarized in the conclusion. Bibliography completes the course work. Methods of research are the study of the literature on the topic of research, the method of comparison, as well as the method of generalization and systematization of the knowledge gained.

Заключение

In this study, there occured an analysis of occasionalisms and neologisms in modern British press. The study reached the following conclusions: 1) Occasionalisms - (from Lat. Occasionalis - случaйный) - individual author’s words formed by the author in accordance with the laws of word-building, for the models that exist in language, and is used as a lexical means of expression or language game. Many scientists believe that every word can be called occasional word in the initial stage of its development. 2) Neologism - a word, meaning word or phrase that recently appeared in the language, the newly established and previously absent. The main reason for the emergence of neologisms in the language is social and scientific and technological progress, due to which there appear new concepts in the language. 3) The main ways of creating of occasionalisms and neologisms in the language are the word-building, borrowing and change of the meanings. 4) In the modern English press occasionalisms and neologisms are formed mainly by composition. Occasionalisms and neologisms are created by the authors of newspaper articles and headlines, mainly to increase the emotional expressiveness of speech.
